Shaw's Outline of Ancient History

Welcome to Jerome Shaw's Survey of Ancient History. The primary concern of this site is to present the history of the ancient world chronometrically.
Originally the material here I collated myself to assist me in my researches of the classics and the near east, as I found that many of the standard resources were less than adequate for my needs, or had been outdated by modern research. Of course, historical work is constantly progressing and therefore much of this material may be subject to debate, especially for the very early periods, where actual dating has been determined through archaeological methods, etc. I have attempted to use the most scholarly and best resources available, but of course I may have overlooked important work, research and discoveries. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you find any errors or material that you find problematic, or if you have any suggestions on ways to improve the site. I will continually attempt to improve the site, and eventually include a search engine to assist in the location of just what you are looking for.
You will find that I have initially broken down the site into the primary considerations of the ancient Egyptian, Near Eastern, Greek and Roman worlds. Eventually I would like to add ancient India, China, and New World Histories as well.
The user will note that in some places the outline is just that, and there are entries with no data yet included. This is a work in progress and so there will continually be locations in the site that are being worked upon. Slowly I will add links and text to as many topics as I possibly can, but the possibilities are endless, so there will always be segments of the outline that are incomplete. That is the beauty and the frustration of the project.
Where possible I will include links to sites that may be useful where this site falls short.
I appreciate your patience as I work to make the site better. Thanks and enjoy!
